The Brodie Family

“Realize that if a door closed, it’s because what was behind it wasn’t meant for you.”

“Sometimes it takes a wrong turn to get you to the right place.”

As a family we are made up of Jill, Tom and myself. I come from an area of Leeds called Bramley whilst Jill and Tom come from Batley in West Yorkshire. We all got together in 2000 when I first met Jill whilst surfing the internet at my house at Dimple Gardens in Ossett. I’d come back from the pub after watching Leeds United and was a little bored so I thought... ohh let me surf AOL and try and find a female to chat to. Well thats when the magic happened, we swapped photos and the rest, so to speak, is history.

I was medically discharged from the Royal Navy in 1999 and worked my way up to a good position at Yorkshire Post as Sales /Commercial Manager on a couple of Farming magazines but then I was made redundant as Johnstone Press deemed that they no longer wanted the 2 farming mags. We'd already bought a 5 bed detached house on the back of my good job as the thought process was to move up the ladder quickly so that we could come down later and have some money.

Well I think this is the 14th year our site has been up an running. I originally built it to host my Gulf War diary so that it would never get lost but has grown along the way of our family journey in life. A lot has changed since I first built it, I have come through redundancy, we have been on our 1st family holiday to Dubai and instead of opening a coffee bar business in Wakefield we returned to the UK with an investment property in Dubai! But now it is 2014 and all has changed again... We managed to get rid of the property in Dubai before the crash and my MS has gotten a lot worse. Tom is a very proud member of the RAF and in turn we are so very proud of him for what he is achieving.

I would be lying if i were to say that everything is rosey and fine, truth is that life has been extremely difficult for all of us but I strongly believe that everything will work out. I haven't a clue how it will happen but when you have a belief and feeling in your gut that it will then that's how it always turns out.

I am a vey strong believer that everything happens for a reason, Good or Bad, and the Universe will decide the future... just like...

The Gulf War which then compromised my immune system which then led my body to develop MS, which then mean't i was medically discharged from the job I loved in the Royal Navy which then led me to purchase my first house in Civvy street in which led to me meeting Jill who is now my wife and on and on and on...

See what I mean!

I am positive there are many more chapters to be written in our lives but one is for sure... ONLY the Universe can decide which path Jill and i take so lets work with it knowing that whatever happens was supposed to :-)

Don’t forget to check out the FAB videos that were taken whilst in Dubai during our holidays, days that we will remember forever. See them on this video page

The beginning...

Although my Gulf War service has made me ill with what is now Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis I can honestly say that i wouldn’t change one part of my service days.

Read my Gulf War diary just as I wrote it on scraps of paper day to day from leaving Portsmouth until the end of the war when i bought a diary in Dubai and transferred everything into it.

My ONLY regret was that i never detailed the dates and times when we had the injections and also when we first started taking the NAPS tablets as I just didn’t know at the time what an impact these were going to have on the rest of my life!
